Something New

It has been a while since I've written anything. I have honestly felt confined to the subject of organizing and have wanted to write posts on other topics. It isn't like there's a post police saying I can't write whatever, so I'm not really sure what's held me back.

With that said there will be a few changes to possibly the name? format and style of the blog.... so many thoughts in mah head right now. I want this blog to be me, all of me. So here it goes.....

On Empty

So lately I have been at a loss for some organizing posts...kind of uninspired. Life has been going by so quickly that it's hard to believe that it is already mid year. Yikes! If you have any organization questions/needs bring 'em on. Send me pictures of what you've got and we can tackle it. : )
    Have a happy Friday!

Over The Weekend

Sometimes creating space is as easy as hanging up a few things. When floor space is cluttered by clothes, shoes, instruments, pictures or paintings it shrinks the visual size of the room. Free up that space and stick it on the wall!

My brother and sister in law both play instruments. To free up some space in their room, we took their music and made it art.

Bonus round! Since we choose to display their instruments instead of hide them, the instruments are able to act as a reminder to practice and jam out!

This was very easy and took about 15 mins to do. Here's what we used....
Two guitar hangers from Amazon. See? I told you it was easy. Add some screws from your local hardware store and a drill, and you're ready to go!

Have some other things to hang, but not sure what to use? Check out these cool finds and their uses below.

I was skeptical at first when the lady at Ikea (thank you!) was telling me about this kit. This is FIXA. It's the coolest picture hanging kit that I have seen thus far! Bonus: it's less than $5! You have your traditional picture hangers for your heavier items, PLUS some cool new gadgets I've never seen before. The white hangers are a three prong system. Simply hammer the prongs in and it stays! I mean STAYS on your wall. I am not sure how much weight they hold though. I used the small white hangers for my canvas art, and it has stayed on the wall.

Hopefully by now you have heard of command and their awesome hooks. Meet the picture hanging kit from Command. Say whhaaat? If you can't or don't want to drill holes into your wall these guys are a great option. The only drawback to these is the price and the weight limit of what they can hold. This value pack is 8.99 and at max can hold 16 lbs. It's neat, but not the best option if you want to hang something heavy or if you have a lot to hang. Bonus: Easy to remove, doesn't leave a mark on what it's stuck to once removed.

Family Command Center
I am starting to see these command centers pop up on blogs, and Pinterest. I recently saw a great post on Acultivatednest .com that showcased various command center ideas. The cuteness is infectious and I kind of want one now. My only hold up is, I am not entirely sure that I would use it. The closest I have ever gotten to something remotely near this is posting the weekly menu on the fridge.

Starbucks Napkins
These recyclable powerhouses are amazing! Anytime I’m at a Starbucks I take a fistful of napkins. It’s not just that they are super absorbent, but their multitasking powers are that of legends. Ok maybe not, but they are pretty cool. Need a quick oil blot for your face? Starbucks napkin. Want to get all those finger prints and smears of your smartphone screen? – Starbucks Napkin.  Want to prevent your drink from sweating all over your desk (no more drink puddles) – Boom! Starbucks Napkin. See what I mean?

Passbook App
I know I am very late on this one… but I can’t be the only one. Right? This only works with apps that are compatible and will allow you to add your ‘perks’ card to passbook. This app did help me de-clutter my wallet, which is partly why I like it so much. I keep my Kroger card, Sephora card, and Starbucks card in my passbook. There are a few other apps I keep with the passbook that I haven’t been able to add my ‘perk card’.  Let me know if you have been able to add your PetSmart card to passbook. I haven’t figured it out.

Powder Room Secrets

I am moving to a new apartment (Eek! So excited!) and so, of course, I've started thinking about how to organize my bathroom. Where I currently live, my bathroom has a space under the vanity -- I am assuming it is for a chair, but I use it as a cubby for my cat’s litter box-- lots of cabinets, drawers, and hidden cabinets behind mirrors. Did I mention I have a lot of cabinets? Hahaha  My new bathroom doesn't have a ton of storage space, which means I need to do a bathroom clean-out and reorganization.

I love the idea of moving! The handful of times that I have had to move or helped others move, it wasn’t bad since there wasn't a lot to move. Moving provides a perfect reason and opportunity to purge, clean and reorganize. So yea… I’m pumped!

Let’s dive in shall we?
Step one (the purge) is usually what takes the longest and is the most difficult. A general rule of thumb when cleaning is: if you haven’t used/worn or touched something in the past 6 – 12 months then it’s time for that item to go. Be honest… we've all hoarded beauty samples, mini bottles of shampoo (the ones you keep stealing from hotels ;) ), hair products (that bottle of gel that’s been sitting there since 2000), ect. Everyone has a stash of stuff they don’t use.

Designate two piles, one will be for trash and the other for anything that can be donated/given away. Something to note: when it comes to make-up and facial products, some of these items have a shelf life. Make sure you check!

Alright, let’s get started! Take everything out, yes everything. Open all drawers and cabinets and empty them. As you take each item out, evaluate it. Have I used this in the past 6 months? Find something that you didn’t know what even there? Determine if you will actually use it, and be honest. If you forgot about it, then chances are you will forget again. As each drawer or cabinet is emptied, wipe it clean. I use a clean rag and some all-purpose cleaner. Once you’re done with the purge stage, clean any additional areas/surfaces that haven’t been cleaned.

Some Assembly Required…
Before you start to throw your things back into drawers and cabinets, consider how you use your bathroom. Personally it’s where I like to do my make-up, hair, look at my outfits … all of it. If you do your make-up or hair in the bedroom then there’s no need to store those things in the bathroom. Got it?
Now for the fun part! It’s time to organize and put everything back in its new home. Every bathroom is little different so take advantage of what you have for storage options. Mirrors that have cabinets behind them, lots of drawers and cabinets are great! To help all this hard work last, you will need some tools to make sure that your stuff stays in place.

Organizing trays stacked in cabinets or inside drawers help keep makeup and jewelry in place and easy to find. You can buy them as a set or separately. I purchased mine at Target, but they are also found at The Container Store, Ikea and Walmart. P.S I do not have a Walmart near me so that is why I reference Target and The Container Store a lot.  : P

I also like to use stacked drawers to hold make-up and hair ties/bobby pins. This works best if you’re like me and have a lot of make-up.  I like to group each set of items in a separate drawer: my palettes in one drawer, single eye shadows in one drawer, eye pencils and mascara in a drawer, and finally all my powders in another drawer.

For larger items like towels and hair tools you can just designate spaces for them. I like to keep my towels under my sink so a fresh one is always available. I also keep lady products like tampons and liners under the sink. Take advantage of small drawers (if you have them) and designate drawers for hair brushes and hot tools (blow dryer, curling iron, and straightener).

Show me what works best for you! I would love to hear/see how y’all keep your power rooms organized.

26th Birthday!

This past weekend was amazing! Not only was it mother's day, but it was also my birthday.  My family, boyfriend and I drove to San Antonio to spend the weekend. We stayed at the Omni La Mansion del Rio off the river walk. This hotel was beautiful and the staff was so friendly and helpful. I highly suggest staying there!!

Here are some pics of our view...

The river walk was right under this bridge!

To kick off the birthday celebrating we went to Magnolia Pancake Haus. This treasure is hands down the best pancake place in San Antonio. They don't take reservations and the wait is usually around 45mins, but oh my butter is it worth it! I ordered banana pancakes with a praline run sauce and extra crispy applewood smoked bacon. Oh boy ... I'm drooling again.

On Sunday we went to the Natural Bridge Caverns. We choose the Discovery tour and saw some really amazing formations. The tour guide takes you along a path underground that is about 3/4 of a mile long and 200ft deep.

It was the perfect weekend and time well spent with loved ones. I am go blessed to have such amazing people around me.

Tell me about your weekend in the comments section.. I'd love to hear about it.

P.S I am working on my next post about organizing..promise! Check back again later this week to read all about it!

Organize ALL the things!

Yes I know, its kinda weird.. but I love to organize.  I believe everything should have a place that makes sense. Even though I know what I purchased (for the most part), when it comes to clothes and shoes I want to see as much as possible. Since my closet isn't freakishly large and doesn't have its own couch, I've become resourceful to create space and order.

I am drooling over this... and I'm not quite sure if it's excessive hahaha. Ok so it probably wont be ALL my stuff, I would have to share.

Since most people either have a walk-in closet or a small closet with sliding doors, I thought I would share some tips to create more space with what you have and keep it organized.

1. Dresser drawers tend to be pretty spacious, making your sock and underwear drawer a jumbled mess. I like to use pop up drawers to store smaller things like socks, stockings, and underwear. I bought mine at the container store; they come in tons of colors and prints.
If you are on a budget, look around the house for shoe boxes or other small containers. You can easily paint or use markers to make the boxes cute.

2. Belts, scarfs, and purses can take up a lot of space in closets depending on how many you have. If you're like me and want to see all your options then look for hangers that can store multiple belts or scarfs. I purchased the below and loovveee them. : D  Oh and P.S! The scarf hanger is on sale at the container store.

This last little guy is an S hook.. original I know. These little suckers are fabulous for hanging just about anything! They work for jeans (1 pair at a time ladies), belts, scarfs (be sure to loop the scarf around the hook), and purses. Play around with how many scarfs or belts you want to hang from each S hook. The good thing about them is there are pretty cheap, so you don't feel bad buying a bunch.

On a budget and can't afford to buy trinkets? No biggie! If you have a rod in your closet you can always loop your scarfs around that. Belts work the same way, all you have to do is make sure that they are secured. Another inexpensive tool that works very well is the 3M Command hooks. You can attach them to any surface and they work well for hanging purses and clutches.

3. Shoes! Oh my goodness I love shoes. Heels, flats, wedges, boots, tennis shoes.... get it? lol I have an issue. There are several storage options for storing your beloved footwear if you do not have the floor or shelf space to spare in your closet.

If you have space under your bed look at some underbed storage options such as this canvas shoe organizer.

Under the bed not an option? Try these hanging options (found at They are also available as over the door options as well.
